Make Moving stress free with these helpful tips!
Here at TDY Moving, we’ve been servicing the New York City and Tri-state area for many years. We’ve gained much knowledge and wisdom in all of the things that can potentially go overwhelm you prior to and during moving day. We are here to share that knowledge with you with a few quick tips on how to make your move as stress-free as possible.
Plan your move well in advance:
Don’t wait for the last minute to start organizing your move and packing your stuff. Buy packing supplies well in advance. Spend every day packing stuff little by little, box by box. The last thing you want to do is to find yourself in a situation where it’s time to clear your space and you’ve barely packed half of your contents! Moving can be stressful enough, the last thing anyone wants is to add any stress.
If you are moving from/to an elevator building in NYC, chances are you need to reserve your elevators for your move day. Make sure all of the certificates of insurance’s have been provided by your movers, and that you have scheduled a sufficient time window for your elevator reservation.
Should you have a cutoff time on any of the elevators (pickup or destination) make sure your movers are aware so they can advise on the right amount of manpower to get the job done without hiccups!
It is important to remember your new space is probably different than the old space, so it is recommended to measure any oddly shaped/large pieces of furniture you may have to ensure that they will fit through any narrow hallway, staircase/elevator, or in the room you desire.
Make a Moving checklist:
It is important to keep track of all the things that you need to do before and after you move, so be sure you make yourself a moving checklist. This will save you a hassle and aggravation. An example of some of those things to add to your list should consist of the following:
- Canceling/changing your utility bills to the new address
- Notifying the post office of your change of address
- Changing billing information on your credit cards
- Confirm your elevator reservation with building management
- Make sure any certificates of Insurance have been reviewed and confirmed with your building
- Create an inventory list of all the items you need to be moved
- Update your driver’s license
- Pack an essential box with everything you’ll need for your first 24 hours in your new home.
These are just some examples to help keep a little of the stress out of moving day!
Picking the right moving company:
When it’s time to pick your moving company, here are some of the factors to consider:
Are they local?
If a moving company is not local to your location, chances are you will be spending unnecessary money in their fees of getting to your location. Here at TDY Moving, we are local to the NYC and Tri-state area!
Are they a broker?
Some companies you may speak to are not the actual movers who will come move you, as they broker the move out elsewhere. Gd only knows what kind of guys you may end up with, or what kind of an up-charge that company might try to drop on you on moving day.
Have you read their online reviews?
You know the saying- “learn from other people’s mistakes”. Please, do your due diligence by checking out any prospective moving company by what people have experienced previously with that mover. Here at TDY we are proud of maintaining our 5-star reputation throughout the years!
Although, all in all, the best word of advice we can give you is, for an easy and stress-free move, hire TDY Moving Service Brooklyn!
